For Marielle's 3rd Birthday, we decided to have a short holiday to Malaysia. We never been to Malaysia before so we are excited. We bought a 3 days / 2 nights package to Genting then Kuala Lumpur.
Up, up and...up
So May 24 came and we are on the way to Genting. Our transportation is a double-decker bus, each of us having a very wide and comfortable seats with massage functions and our own tv for entertainment. We really glad we upgraded our seats from coach to premium class because it turned out to be a VERY long trip: it took us around 7 hours including to stop over to reach Genting. We departed around 7:30AM and reached the place at 2:00PM. The trip was nice but by the middle of the day, we got bored since there is nothing to see but mountains, hills and plains. Guess we are not used to this kind of sceneries just like before. Anyway, we were able to checked in to First World Hotel at around 3:00PM after queuing for almost an hour.
The room we got was just ok. We don't actually expect too much from the hotel: eventhough it has the largest number of hotel rooms in the world, but the room size were quite small. but we have no complains, we just want to have a place to rest and sleep. Well, that's what we did once we got into the room, we slept for bit then woke up around 4:00PM.
It was drizzling by the time we left our room so we decided we will just go to the Indoor Theme Park. We grabbed a bite 1st at KFC of all places hahaha but it was worth it. We never tasted a chicken as delicious as the one we had compared in Singapore. Or maybe we are just hungry? hehe :)
Genting is very similar to Baguio in the Philippines, i guess it's much higher and the temperature is colder. It has several hotels, a couple of theme parks and several casinos to lose your money. We weren't able to enter any of them since children are not allowed. It's okay since we do not have enough money to gamble in the 1st place hehe.
We spend the the whole evening trying the rides inside the Indoor Park. Almost all the rides here are catered for young kids so Marielle was having lots of fun. Me and my husband kind of feel like kids again. My family shared a romantic ride together on a Gondola, felt like we are on top of the world riding the Ferris Wheel. Marielle and I rode the Carousel while daddy took the pictures. We also went to Snow World to experience the so-called Winter Wonderland. By midnight, we almost been to all the rides except for those where Marielle is too young to try. We all fell asleep once we settled in our beds around after midnight.
We woke up early the next day to be able to do more exploring since we will be going down to Kuala Lumpur by lunch time. We had our quick breakfast in the First World Cafe. Our tour package didn't include breakfast but for some reason, we weren't charged for that. The receptionist even told us that it was free. Talk about luck hehe After getting full, we went straight to the Genting Skyway, which is a cable car ride. It is currently the world's fastest and South East Asia's longest cable car system. The 3.38 kilometres journey up (or down) the mountain peak takes only 11 minutes. Marielle was so excited to ride the cable car, she wants to ride one after experiencing the Sentosa Cable Car last year.
Once we got back to the mountain top, we took a quick train ride around the theme park to check what we have missed. The truth is our time in Genting is not enough to visit everything that is needed to be seen. We haven't been able to the Outdoor Theme Park yet. Next time we go here, we'll make sure we stay here longer...maybe 3 days 2 night? :)
Back to the city
Around lunch time we boarded the bus going back to KL. The transpo was not as nice as we had going up to Genting. It was actually a bus from a different company. I guess they have a common agreement to collect all persons who will be going back and put in one bus. We came a bit late so we had our seats on the 1st floor of the double-decker bus.
I'm not sure but i think the travel down to KL was faster. Maybe because of the downward force? I dunno hehe Anyway, we were asleep most of the time, taking some rest after the morning's activity. It took around 2 hours to reach our destination: Swiss Garden Hotel. Part of the booking was a night-stay at one of their deluxe room with free breakfast.
This time the room we had was very, very nice...at least to our standards. My hubby mentioned that it looks similar to the room he had when he went to Shanghai. The room has 2 beds, a nice window view, LCD TV and a big bathtub. After bringing down our bags, again we took a little nap to recharge for a bit. Around 4pm, we went out to do some site seeing.
Our 1st stop is the Berjaya Times Square, a shopping mall near our hotel. It was about 5-10 mins walk from the hotel. The mall was just ok, it has signatured shops on the ground floor but almost all the shops on the upper levels are unknown brands. At least it has an indoor theme park and an iMAX cinema. We had our lunch in one of the restaurants near the cinemas. I forgot the name of the place but the food we ordered was quite nice and the prices are reasonably cheap. After that, we just stroll around the mall looking for some sale and bargains. I was able to buy a nice blouse in the MNG by Mango boutique for only 35 SGD if you convert it. We actually didn't do anything else that night but to go to different malls. We saved the Petronas and the KL tower for tomorrow.
We had a hard time getting up the next day as our bodies ache a bit from the endless walking last night and the bed as very, very comfortable. After several efforts, we found ourselves having our breakfast in the hotel's restaurant. We took a quick fix as we are trying to squeeze in some activities before going back to Singapore after lunch. We hailed one of the cabs in front of the hotel and told the friendly driver we want to go to the Petronas. We learned that unfortunately, it was actually closed during Monday. It's a good thing that he mentioned that so we went to KL Tower instead. We arrived there just in time for its opening. After one long elevator ride, we are on top of the tower. The sunny weather gave us a magnificent view of Kuala Lumpur and its skylines.
After admiring the nice sceneries, we went down, hailed another cab and go to the Petronas Tower. We'd like to take a closer look at it eventhough we cannot go up since it was close. We paid around 10ringgit to go there. The driver dropped us in front of the Suria Mall which is located at the base of the twin towers. Here you can find all the internationals brands that you can think of. We strolled for a bit before going out to the park besides the mall.
We took some pictures with the tower as our background. It was a bit difficult to take since we need to place the camera on the floor to be able to take a good picture. The very hot weather also didn't help. We found the park quite similar to the gardens found in Singapore. One unique thing it have are the metal sculptures which resembles of a whale and 3 dolphins coming out of the water. Too bad the place was under renovation so we couldn't take a closer look. The heat made us very thirsty, hungry and tired. It was also near lunch so we decided to go back to the hotel.
What a nice feeling to arrived back at our nice hotel room. We ordered room services for our lunch while packing our stuffs for the travel back to SG. After checking out, we left our luggage in the hotel lobby and quickly made a run to Chinatown/Petaling Street. It turned out be a place that looks like you are in Baclaran or Divisoria in the Philippines. Most of the stalls are selling faked signature clothings, bags, shoes, accessories...you name it. We just have one quick stroll before decided to go back to the hotel to be picked up by travel agency. Along the way back, we found a Starbucks outlet and fortunately, there was a coffee mug/container which have a Kuala Lumpur logo on it so we bought one as part of our collection.
The driver who picked us up was kind enough to show us a nice chocolate candy shop along the way to the bus terminal. The shop's name is Berryl's Chocolate and they offer a lot of chocolate varieties. We bought a couple of bag of Tiramisu chocolate covered almonds, a box of Chilli Chocolate and bag of White Chocolate with a hint of Sesame flavor. Once we arrived at the terminal we left our luggage in the First Class/Premium Class lounge and went to have our well deserved foot massage. It was actually very cheap, we paid 24 ringgit for a 30 min foot massage which is around 10 sing dollar. The massage was very, very nice as it removed all the pain and tension on our feet and legs.
Around 3:30PM we boarded the double-deck bus going back to SG. As the bus was going out of the terminal, it began to rain. Good thing we are already settled in as we don't want to be stuck in KL together with a thunderstorm. And after 5 hours, 2 stop over, a free dinner on board and 2 immigration checks, we arrived at SG at approximately 9:00PM. Nice to be back home.
Honestly, 3 days and 2 nights were not enough to enjoy Genting and KL to it's fullest. There are a lot of places and things we haven't seen, been to or done which is very unfortunate. Next time we'll make sure we have enough time so we don't need to hurry with our activities. Maybe 3 days 3 nights in Genting and another 3 days and 2 nights in KL? We have until next year to save hehe :)
